Welcome to Tybee Island and the Georgia Golden Isles!
Tybee Island, GA is a well-kept secret among vacationers, often overshadowed by its more popular (and touristy) neighbors of St. Simons Island, Hilton Head Island, and Jekyll Island. Tybee does perhaps move to a slower pace, but with all the amenities including fantastic beaches, charter fishing, kayaking and canoeing, golf, shopping, spas and salons, and a variety of restaurants, events and entertainment for the whole family, and without all the crowds and touristas. Well, at least until word gets out about the new Miley Cyrus movie that was filmed in Tybee during summer 2009 (and we were there). Oh, and Sandra Bullock has a house on the Island, somewhere.
Tybee Island - Where The Last Song Was Filmed.
Mily Cyrus, Greg Kinnear, Kelly Preston and a host of other stars descended on Tybee Island during summer 2009 to film The Last Song, based on the Nicholas Sparks novel. We were there and caught some great behind-the-scenes action as well as candid photos of Miley Cyrus and the church fire scene that opens the movie. Click here for the official Last Song movie trailer as well as photos and news articles about the event that put Tybee on the map.

Bicycle Rentals and Bicycling on Tybee Island
Bicycling on Tybee's flat beaches and terrain is one of our favorite family activities. Only 2.75 miles long, Tybee Island is easy to get around on bicycle and you can get almost anywhere without having to get in your car. Tybee has a designated bike route consisting of paths and safe streets. The scenic, six-mile long Old Railroad Trail along US-80 is among favorite biking and hiking spots.
Tybee Restaurants, Dining and Places to Eat
Tybee Island has more than two dozen restaurants and many wonderful places for seafood, casual and fine dining for the whole family. Many local Tybee restaurants offer water views and outdoor seating and entertainment, including acoustical music and nightly specials.
Tybee Lighthouse
The Tybee Island Light Station, built in 1773, is Georgia's oldest and tallest lighthouse, and one of America’s most complete historic light stations. For more than 270 years, the Tybee Lighthouse has been guiding mariners safely into the Savannah River harbor. Throughout its history it has been rebuilt several times. All of its original support buildings are still located on the five-acre site off US-80 at Fort Screven. Still a functioning navigational aid, the station's light, courtesy of a first order Fresnel lens, can be seen 18 miles out to sea.
Visitors willing to climb the 178 steps to the top of the recently restored lighthouse will enjoy a spectacular view of the entire island. The newly renovated head keeper’s cottage, the Tybee Museum and gift shop are also on site.
Tybee Island Kayaking, Canoeing, Tours, & Outdoor Adventure
One of Tybee's most popular water activities, kayaking or canoeing provides you with an up-close and personal opportunity to paddle some of Georgia's most unspoiled costal waters and experience local species of wildlife in their natural habitat. There are kayak rentals, instruction, guided tours, instructor certification, and everything you need to start your adventure. And of course there are dolphin tours, marinas, bird watching, parks, nature trails, and much more to explore on Tybee Island!
